Isle of Wight Our guide to the Isle of Wight - Wight Agents

The Isle of Wight, known as the ‘Garden Isle’, is just 4 miles off the South Coast of England, but many residents and visitors feel that the separation from the mainland provided by the Solent, provides the Island with a unique feel.

The Island is however very well connected, with passenger crossings to Portsmouth, Southsea and Southampton, and vehicle crossing to Southampton, Portsmouth and Lymington.  London is in fact just 2 hours away.

The Island boasts a varied and stunning coastline, from the long sandy beaches of Sandown and Shanklin, to the spectacular chalk cliffs of Culver and Freshwater.  The secluded beach at Compton Bay with it’s onshore winds is a favourite for extreme sports enthusiasts and surfers.

Newport is at the heart of the Island geographically, sitting centrally at the southern end of the River Medina.  Newport is also the largest town and the ‘capital’ of the Island.  Ryde is the second largest residential area on the Island, and provides passenger crossing to Portsmouth and Southsea.

At the northern tip of the Isle of Wight, sits Cowes, the home of the world famous yachting regatta.  The River Medina splits Cowes into West and East Cowes.  East Cowes hosts Osborne House, the former home of Queen Victoria.

The Isle of Wight has many coastal resort towns including Sandown, Shanklin, Ventnor, Yarmouth, Freshwater and many more.

The Island is a fantastic place to live, work and relax.  Below we’ve provided some links that may be useful if you are looking to buy a house on the Isle of Wight or relocate here.
