Halifax Announce - House Prices Rise 1.9%

Many of the Wight Agents members have reported a significant increase in activity since the beginning of the new year and this has been backed up by the news that national house prices jumped in January by 1.9% to an average of £163,966, according to the Halifax Building Society.

Megan Baker, MD of Megan Baker Estate Agents said “Last year we were still seeing large numbers of excellent potential purchasers, ready to buy but concerned about doing so in the face of anticipated further reductions in house prices.  It seems people now believe that we may have seen prices reach or at least approach their lowest prices.  Our sales levels have risen substantially in January as buyers realise now is the time to buy, before prices start rising again.  Today’s news of house prices rising nationally just proves this is happening all over the country.  Although our buyers are very price conscious, they are realising that buying in 2009 could prove be a very good move indeed.”
